Behavioral Geofencing: Overview

Behavioral Geofencing is part of Paubox Inbound Email Security. It learns the countries and networks that are typical for your organization's inbound mail, then flags messages that look unusual based on that history.

How Behavioral Geofencing works

Rather than relying on a list of blocked countries, Behavioral Geofencing builds a baseline of where your organization's inbound mail normally comes from. It watches for two situations: mail arriving from a country that's unusual for your organization overall, and a sender you've corresponded with before suddenly sending from a new, unexpected country.

There's no list to maintain. The baseline updates on its own as your organization's mail patterns change.

What happens when something looks unusual

When a message's origin looks unusual, or an established sender starts sending from an unfamiliar country, Paubox may quarantine that message for review. Behavioral Geofencing only evaluates inbound mail. It doesn't affect anything your organization sends.

Note: Behavioral Geofencing doesn't start from scratch. Paubox has been building a baseline of your organization's normal inbound patterns for months, so the baseline is already learning in the background and can start protecting your organization quickly. There's nothing for you to configure.

You'll see Behavioral Geofencing activity reflected in your existing Inbound Security statistics, alongside your other quarantine categories.

Adjusting what Behavioral Geofencing catches

If Behavioral Geofencing flags a sender or pattern you want to allow, or you want to explicitly block something it catches, use your existing block and allow rules. Go to Inbound Security > Rulesets to create or update a rule. See Creating block and allow rules for steps.
