Paubox Texting contacts are managed within the Paubox Marketing CRM so you can seamlessly send texts or emails to contacts. Follow these instructions to add new texting contacts.
Formatting phone numbers
When adding texting contacts, phone numbers need to follow the e.164 format. Phone numbers that follow the e.164 format include the following:
- Begin with a + sign
- Have a 1–3 digit country code
- Subscriber number: includes area code, up to 12 digits.

Import contacts via a CSV file
Use the Import Contacts function to quickly import a bulk list of contacts from a CSV file.
1) On the Contacts page in Paubox Marketing, click the Add Contacts button.
2) On the dropdown, choose Import Contacts.
3) Drag and drop your CSV file or click Browse Computer to open the file manager. Note, there is a 5MB file size limit on CSV uploads.
4) Map each imported column to the appropriate Smart Text Field.
- Use the dropdown to choose a Smart Text Field or create a new field.
- You can choose not to import a column by unchecking the box next to the Column Name.
- Note that the only required field/value for contacts is an email address
5) Click Continue to Validation.
6) If there are any duplicate email addresses or other errors, you can discard all invalid contacts or resolve individual issues.
7) Click Review.
8) Review the contacts being imported and make any final edits prior to the contact import.
9) Click Import Contacts to complete the import.
Add a single contact
To add a single contact:
1) On the Contacts page in Paubox Marketing, click the Add Contacts button.
2) On the dropdown, choose Add Single Contact.
3) Fill in the contact details.
4) To add a new smart text field, click on New Smart Text Field.
5) After all the contact information has been added, click on Add Contact to confirm and add the new contact.

FAQs
What happens if I import a contact with the phone number improperly formatted?
If a phone number does not follow the proper e.164 format, any text messages sent to that number will fail to deliver. It's important to review your imports to make sure all contact information is properly formatted.
2. Can I add phone numbers to an existing contact in Paubox Marketing?
Yes, you can add a phone number to existing contacts. Just make sure that you include the existing contact's email address (the unique identifier) so that the new imported data properly merges with the existing contact.
