Set up conditional logic on a Paubox Forms field

Conditional logic lets you show or hide a form field based on how someone answered an earlier question. You can use it to tailor a single form to each person, so they only see the questions that apply to them.

How conditional logic works

A field can be shown or hidden based on the answer to an earlier Single Choice or Dropdown question. Only Single Choice and Dropdown fields can control another field, so those are the only field types that appear as options when you set up a rule.

When a field is hidden, it is skipped on submit and left out of the response. You do not collect or store answers that do not apply to a given respondent.

How to set up conditional logic

  1. Log in to your Paubox dashboard

  2. Go to Paubox Forms in the left navigation and open the form you want to edit in the form builder

  3. Select the question/field you want to show or hide

  4. In the field's properties panel, open the Conditional logic section

  5. Turn on Show this field conditionally

  6. Under When field, choose the Single Choice or Dropdown question that controls this field

  7. Under is equal to, choose the answer that triggers the rule

  8. Under then, choose Show Field or Hide Field

  9. Save the form to apply your changes

Note: Only Single Choice and Dropdown fields can be used under When field. If the question you want to use does not appear, confirm it is one of those two field types.

Example

A telehealth intake form can include the question "Do you consent to this telehealth visit?" On the follow-up fields, set the condition so that When field is "Do you consent to this telehealth visit?", is equal to "Yes, I consent", then Show Field. Respondents who pick anything else never see those fields, and their answers are left out of the response.
