Sign up for Paubox Mailbox

Paubox Mailbox gives you a HIPAA compliant @pauboxmail.com email address, so you can email patients and colleagues securely without your own domain or email provider. You can sign up on your own in a few minutes. This article walks through each step so you know what to expect.

Step 1: Create your Paubox account

  1. Go to the Paubox sign-up page
  2. Choose Continue with Google or Continue with Microsoft, or enter your email address and a password
  3. Click Create Account

Step 2: Choose Paubox Mailbox

On the product selection page, find Paubox Mailbox and click Get started.

Step 3: Verify your email

Paubox sends a 6-digit code to the email address you signed up with.

  1. Enter the code in the Verification code field
  2. Click Verify email

If the code doesn't arrive, check your spam folder or click Send a new code.

Step 4: Choose your email address

This is the address your patients and colleagues will email, and the one you'll use to sign in to Paubox.

  1. Type the name you want before @pauboxmail.com, or pick one of the suggestions under Ideas
  2. Click Check availability
  3. If the address is available, click Hold this address

Paubox holds the address for 30 minutes while you check out.

Note: You can't change your email address after your mailbox is created. Double-check the spelling before you continue.

Step 5: Choose your payment term and pay

  1. Under Select payment term, choose Annual or Monthly. The annual term costs $20 per month, billed once a year.
  2. Enter your card details
  3. Read and accept the Customer Agreement, Acceptable Use Policy and Business Associate Agreement (BAA)
  4. Click Confirm payment

Your plan includes one mailbox with encryption, inbound threat protection and HIPAA compliant forms. The BAA covers your Paubox Mailbox.

Step 6: Set up your sign-in

Next, you'll choose the password you'll use from now on. One password works for your Paubox account, webmail and your phone's mail app, and it replaces the password you signed up with.

  1. Enter a password in the Password field. It needs at least 12 characters, including an uppercase letter, a number and a special character. Paubox also checks it against known data breaches.
  2. Enter it again in Confirm password
  3. Click Create my mailbox

From this point on, sign in to Paubox with your new @pauboxmail.com address. Your original email address stays on file as your recovery email.

Step 7: Start using your mailbox

When your mailbox is ready, you'll see a confirmation page with your new address and a few ways to get started.

To read and send email in your browser, click Open webmail and sign in with your mailbox address and the password from step 6.

To add your mailbox to your phone, add a new account in Mail, Outlook or Gmail and choose IMAP. Use m.paubox.com for incoming mail (port 993, SSL/TLS) and outgoing mail (port 587, STARTTLS), with your full email address as the username.

Your plan also includes HIPAA compliant forms for collecting patient information. Form submissions arrive in your mailbox, encrypted.

Click Go to your dashboard to manage your account.

Keep your account secure

Paubox sends password resets and new sign-in alerts to both your recovery email and your mailbox. To keep patient information protected, don't set up automatic forwarding from your mailbox to a personal email account.
