User guide: Paubox email encryption

Your organization is now using Paubox Email Suite to ensure all outbound emails are encrypted and HIPAA compliant. Here’s what that means for end users and what to expect when sending and receiving encrypted emails.

How to send an encrypted email

Good news: there’s nothing new for you to learn or do.

With Paubox, all outbound emails are encrypted by default. Send an email as you normally would. There’s no need to check a box or write a special keyword in order to encrypt an email. Paubox works behind the scenes to encrypt all your messages (including attachments) automatically.

What your recipients will experience

For most recipients, they’ll receive your email like any other email. They won’t need to sign into a special portal or use a passcode to view the email. They’ll be able to read your email directly in their inbox (on their desktop, phone, or even on a smart watch).

For a select few recipients whose email provider does not accept TLS encrypted emails, your message will be delivered via the secure message center. The recipient will receive an email notification with a one-click link to view the encrypted message securely through the browser.

Benefits of Paubox

  • Paubox helps organizations remain HIPAA compliant and protect sensitive information
  • Reduces the potential of mistakenly sending PHI in an unencrypted email by making sure all emails are sent encrypted without any action needed by the sender
  • Creates a seamless experience for recipients making it easy to read emails
