Users vs. Senders

What is a user?

A user is someone who has access to the Paubox dashboard.

Users can log in to Paubox and perform actions based on the permissions assigned to them.

Users are defined by dashboard access, not by email activity.

Examples of users:

  • An IT administrator who manages Paubox settings

  • A compliance officer who reviews logs or reports

  • An employee who has access to view their own quarantine

Important things to know about users:

  • Users can have different roles and permission levels (see more info on user roles here)

  • Users are about access and management, not email identity

What is a sender?

A sender is an email identity that sends email through Paubox.

Senders represent the email addresses that Paubox protects for outbound and inbound email. If an email address sends mail that should be secured by Paubox, it counts as a sender.

Senders are defined by email activity, not dashboard access.

FAQs

Q: All my staff send email. Are they all users?
A: No. Staff members who send email are senders. They are only users if they also have login access to the Paubox dashboard.

Q: Do senders need to log in to Paubox?
A: No. Most senders never log in. Paubox works automatically in the background.
