A TXT/ SPF record is a DNS record used for email authentication. It ensures that only approved senders can deliver emails on behalf of your domain. It also helps prevent spoofing. Adding Paubox to the TXT/ SPF record will give Paubox permission to send on your behalf.
Step-by-step guide
- Log in to your domain host. Please note: you will need to edit or add a new DNS record at your domain hosting provider (GoDaddy or Wix, for example) to complete these steps.
- Click on the Control Panel(may also be called DNS Zone Editor, or just DNS)
- If you see a record of type TXT that begins with “v=spf1”, edit the record and insert "include:_spf.paubox.com" just before the -all; for example:
For Google Workspace
v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com include:_spf.paubox.com -all
For Microsoft 365
v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com include:_spf.paubox.com -all - Note: there may be other "includes" or IP numbers in the record, that is fine, just insert the "include:_spf.paubox.com" right before the -all
- click save
- If you do not see a record of type TXT that starts with v=spf1, create a new one:
- In the record section, click Add (may also be called Add Record)
- For Type, enter TXT
- In the Host Field, type:@ (if it does not accept the @ symbol, enter your domain)
- In the TXT value or Text field, type this line:
For Google Workspace
v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com include:_spf.paubox.com -all
For M365
v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com include:_spf.paubox.com -all
- Leave the default value in the TTL field
- Click Save
Adding or editing a DNS record
- All domain hosts are set up differently
- After logging into your domain hosting provider, locate your DNS records (the most common locations for DNS records are: Control Panel, DNS Zone Editor, or Manage DNS / Manage DNS Settings)
- Once you've located the DNS records, there should be a button to "Add" or "Add Record"
